Where is your studio situated?

My studio is situated in Nigel on the East Rand. (About a 30-minute drive from Johannesburg South.)

Do you travel for photo sessions or do you only shoot in studio?

Yes, I travel for SELECTED photo packages. The first 30km round trip from the studio in Nigel are included in your package, thereafter an additional travel charge would apply R6.00 per kilometer. All toll-fees and location entrance fees will be for the client’s account.

For most of my outdoor sessions, I make use of a beautiful field, less than 5 minute drive from the studio. The field is lush and green during spring and summer months and has rich, natural, golden colours during fall and winter months.

Are you available on Saturdays?

Due to the natural light in the studio, I have restricted shooting times. I am available from Tuesday to Friday (from 9am to 2pm) and Saturdays (from 9am to 1pm) for in-studio photo sessions. All on-location photo sessions are dependent on my availability. I do however photograph Christenings on a Sunday. The studio is CLOSED on Sundays and Public Holidays for all other sessions.

Mondays are reserved for editing and admin.

Saturdays are the MOST popular days and fill up first – sometimes up to 8 weeks in advance.

Remember to book well in advance.

What types of Packages do you offer?

I offer 2 different types of packages: Simplistic Packages (which is a natural photo session) and Styled Packages (which is a more posed session).

How do I make a booking?

Once you have decided on your package, please email me to confirm my availability and request the booking form. A 50% non-refundable booking fee is required to secure the date and time you would like booked for your shoot in the Photographer’s schedule. Your shoot will only be booked once the 50% booking fee has been paid and the Booking Form submitted. No bookings will be held without the payment. Booking Fee needs to be paid within 48 hours from making your booking. Balance is due no later than 2 days prior to your session.

Are there private changing and feeding facilities at your studio?

Yes, there are. My studio has been equipped to make sessions as comfortable as possible for my clients.

Do you have props available in studio?

Yes, I do have a fair selection of newborn props (e.g. baskets, crates, etc.) as well as newborn clothing (e.g. bonnets, rompers, wraps, etc.) available for use during a Styled Newborn Session.

Do you have clothing available in studio?

Yes, clients have the opportunity to borrow clothing from my Studio Wardrobe.  This appeals to a lot of clients, as they get to come to the studio and choose what they love most.  It’s also inexpensive! I provide wardrobe for your family, saving you the hassle of trying to coordinate outfits. This also allows you to take the money you’d normally spend on new outfits, and put that toward your photography budget.

I am constantly changing wardrobe pieces, making sure to keep it fresh and high-end.  Once your booking has been confirmed, I will forward you the Catalogue to choose and book your outfits if you are interested in making use of the studio’s wardrobe.

I have a complete studio wardrobe for little girls (e.g. lace dresses, lace rompers, etc.), little boys (e.g. dungarees, shorts) as well as a selection of ladies wear and maternity gowns available for you to borrow for IN STUDIO sessions only.

Apart from a few men’s shirts, unfortunately I do NOT stock men’s wear at this stage.

You also have the option of bringing your own clothing, though most decide to borrow once they see what I have.  

Please note: I don’t carry men’s pants (there are so many sizes!). I do have a few men’s shirts available – the men’s section of the wardrobe is still growing.

When should I book my photo session?

I would advise booking a session in advance to ensure the availability of your preferred date and time slot. Saturdays are the MOST popular days and fill up first.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you need to have your session scheduled earlier or your baby has been born already – I will see what I can do and try my utmost best to accommodate you.

Maternity Sessions– I suggest scheduling your maternity session between week 30 and 36, unless you are expecting multiples then the maternity session should be scheduled earlier, between 28 and 32 weeks. I would not recommend scheduling your maternity session within the last two weeks of your pregnancy as your baby might just decide to come early – causing you to miss your maternity photo session.

Newborn Sessions– It is best to schedule a newborn session within the first 10 days of your baby’s new life (if possible) – days 5 to 10 prove to be best. When you have booked you baby’s newborn session I will pencil in a date in my diary, once your baby arrived we can juggle the date and time to suit. I do leave room in my schedule to make adjustments to session dates once the baby arrives. Babies will arrive on their own terms, but at least we have some sort of a guideline to go by of what the session day will be. From there we can adjust the session date once the baby is born. Please get in contact with me within a day or two after the birth of your baby so I can make schedule adjustments if needed. Scheduling a newborn session between days 5 to 7 also gives us a little leeway, just in case we would need to reschedule your baby’s newborn session due to unforeseen circumstances. If you don’t feel comfortable bringing your baby that early, please call me to arrange the shoot as soon as you are ready.

I am planning on having a natural birth. How do we go about scheduling a date for the newborn session?

We usually book a date around 5 days after your “estimated due date”.  As soon as baby has arrived just let me know and we can adjust the date if necessary! I do leave room in my schedule to make adjustments to session dates once the baby arrives.

Why do you do a newborn shoot that early?

The age of a baby can sometimes make a big difference in what type of poses you are able to position them in and whether they will like it or not.

I have done successful posed newborn sessions up to the age of 8 weeks. I however strongly encourage parents to schedule sessions when babies are under 15 days of age, days 5 to 10 prove to be best, if they would like the posed, curled up, sleeping newborn portraits. At this age, babies are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep for longer periods of time, don’t mind being unclothed (as long as they have a full tummy and are kept warm).

Babies older than two weeks tend to be more awake, hate being unclothed and most often cannot curl up into the typical curly, newborn poses anymore. Round about the two week age mark, babies go through a growth spurt and will start stretching their arms and legs and will not be as keen to curling up, which is needed for some of the poses and portraits in props like a bucket.

For older and fussy babies I would recommend a lifestyle newborn session.

If you do not feel comfortable with having your baby photographed that early – you are more than welcome to get in contact with me to reschedule once you feel ready.

What should I wear to my photo session, what should I bring and how should I prepare?

Once you have booked your photo sessions, I’ll forward all additional info to you in regards to preparing, outfit ideas, etc.

Do you offer makeup and hairstyling services?

Yes, I can source the services of a makeup artist and hairstylist for your session. Charges will be for the client’s account. My preferred makeup artist and I have been working together for over 5 years. She is FANTASTIC in her work and I trust her completely. To ensure the availability of the makeup artist and hairstylist, please book her services when completing your booking form or get in touch with me at least a week prior to your photo session. The makeup artist and hairstylist is available Tuesday to Saturdays for booking.

Do you edit the photos?

Yes, I do. All my images go through my editing workflow process to beautify your images. I do NOT do any image manipulation e.g. remove or add people to photos, adding artificial backgrounds, etc. 

Any special requests or re-editing of images will be assessed and quoted for by the current hourly rate.

When will I receive my photos?

Time needed to finish all the post production of your special images are 3-4 weeks. The EDITED images will be available electronically (digital) in an online, password protected gallery, 3-4 weeks from your photo session. During the peak season (December to January and April) and periods of heavy load shedding editing time will be extended to 4-5 weeks.

From the online gallery, you must choose your favourite images for download as included in the package you have booked. You can also purchase additional images (not included in your chosen package) and order printed matter, e.g. canvas prints, from the gallery.

Once you have made your selection, you will receive a download link to download your images for safekeeping.

No, none of the packages include a USB or CD. Images are supplied as an electronic download only. Clients are responsible for the download and backup of their images. Clients are welcome to order a USB for safekeeping at an additional charge.

What will happen if I’m late for my photo session?

Most of my clients travel quite a distance to the studio and I do GREATLY appreciate their effort!. However, if you are late for your session, your session will be shortened accordingly. Shooting time will not be adjusted for late-comers. I have clients in slots after yours that cannot be inconvenienced. Please be aware that your session will still start at the scheduled time and not at the time of arrival, which will result in less time for your session and possibly less final images if you are late for your session.

What is the best time of the day to schedule our photo session?

For outdoor shoots the best light is an hour before sunset or the hour after sunrise for your photos. Studio shoots can be done any time during the day between 8am and 2pm (depending on my availability.) I have found that babies and small children are at their best for a photo session early to mid mornings.

What should I do in case of an emergency or if my baby/child wakes up sick on the day of the session:

In case of an emergency, please notify the studio immediately. If your baby falls ill within a day or two or even hours from the session – rather reschedule asap than trying to push through. Once you have arrived at the studio or we have started with the session, we cannot reschedule halfway through a photo session.

Do you photograph babies only?

No, I love to photograph people…and pets! I photograph people from all ages – babies, toddlers, kiddies, families, etc, etc. You are never too young or too old to have your portrait taken. I do still photograph boudoir sessions, glamour sessions, corporate shoots, corporate headshots, model/actor’s portfolio’s, etc.

Do you still photograph weddings?

I have retired from wedding photography and do not photograph weddings anymore.
